The Dalhousie Bhakti Yoga Club (DBYC) is a student‑led community exploring bhakti‑yoga — a path of devotion, community, and mindful living. Below is our purpose and mandate.
Advance education and public understanding
To advance education by organizing lectures, study circles, workshops, and discussions on the philosophy and practice of bhakti‑yoga and related themes drawn from Vedic literature — such as the Bhagavad‑Gītā (As‑It‑Is), Śrīmad‑Bhāgavatam, and Caitanya‑caritāmṛta — presented in an open, non‑sectarian, and evidence‑informed manner that is accessible to students and the public regardless of faith, culture, or background.
Create a safe, inquisitive community space
To provide safe, inclusive forums where individuals can explore questions about spirituality, ethics, purpose, and “the bigger picture” without judgement, and engage in respectful dialogue and debate.
Promote well‑being through practice
To offer free workshops and sessions that support mental, emotional, and physical well‑being — including meditation, mindfulness, and values‑based life‑skills — consistent with bhakti‑yoga principles.
Apply timeless wisdom to contemporary life
To examine how core Vedic ideas (e.g., simple living and high thinking; compassion and service) can inform constructive approaches to current issues in areas such as personal conduct, community cohesion, social responsibility, and well‑being — while remaining nonpartisan and non‑advocacy oriented.
Foster leadership and service
To cultivate character, leadership, and compassionate service among individuals by facilitating volunteer opportunities, peer mentorship, and experiential learning. To unite like‑minded individuals from all backgrounds and create opportunities to meet, collaborate, and participate in interactive workshops, cultural programs, and community service projects.
